BEHIND THE MUSIC: Eroica highlights the unusual connection between Napoleon and Beethoven. While composing this symphony, originally dedicated to Napoleon, Beethoven became angry at the news that his hero had proclaimed himself Emperor. He furiously scratched out the dictator’s name from the title page and replaced it with “Eroica.”
