The Richmond Symphony's largest community event! Musicians of all ages and levels of ability are invited to bring their instruments and play alongside the musicians of the Richmond Symphony under the baton of Associate Conductor Erin R. Freeman. This event is presented in support of music education in Richmond Public Schools through the Symphony @ School program. The event will be held at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Please note: Euphonium/baritone players must be able to read tenor and/or bass clef. Percussionists encouraged to provide their own instruments (limited space is available). We will be unable to accommodate pianists and saxophonists due to orchestration constraints. Parts are available for musicians of all levels; parts will be tailored to fit the experience level of participants.

PleinAir Richmond

Collector's Preview - Friday, June 22, 2012
"Fast and Fresh" - Saturday, June 23, 2012

Popularized by French Impressionists in the 19th century, painting "en plein air" is done outside, "in the open air," using natural light. The first annual "Plein Air Richmond" event will be presented and hosted by Brazier Gallery to benefit the Richmond Symphony. The Juror for Submissions will be M. Stephen Doherty, Editor of "Plein Air" magazine and the Judge of Awards will be the preeminent American portrait artist and painter, Everett Raymond Kinstler. Between Richmond's historic architecture, beautiful parks, and urban/industrial areas, we expect you will find plenty to paint!

"Plein Air Richmond" will take place from Sunday, June 17 through Saturday, June 23, 2012. On Friday, June 22, there will be a Collector's Preview (with cocktails and the opportunity for patrons and collectors to meet the artists) followed by an elegant garden-themed Gala, a seated dinner accompanied by musicians from the Symphony. "Fast and Fresh" (our version of "Quick Draw") will take place Saturday morning, June 23, on our famous Monument Avenue.

Plein Air Richmond will award a Grand Prize, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, and a "Fast and Fresh" Award among others. There will be $10,000+ in awards. For Artist Prospectus and to enter the show, please click here.
