Strut your stuff and try a violin or a trumpet at the Instrument Petting Zoo hosted by Jan Hampton Violins and KBI Music Shoppe! This concert will feature Haydn’s Symphony No. 94\, Gregory Smith’s VIBE\, and John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine and is narrated by Teddy McPherson. \nBe there at 2pm as the Science Museum of Virginia gives a pre-show demonstration: Listen up! We’re exploring the science behind sound waves. We’ll blow your mind—but not your eardrums—with the power of sound.” \nWhile designed for ages 7-13\, all ages are welcome. DESCRIPTION:The RVA East End Festival is a community celebration that highlights the diverse neighborhoods and unique qualities of Richmond’s East End. Proceeds of this family-friendly event support music & cultural arts programs at Richmond Public Schools in the East End. Since 2016\, the RVA East End Festival has raised over $550\,000 to support music\, visual arts and performing arts programs at eight elementary\, middle and high schools in the East End communities of the Richmond Public Schools system. DESCRIPTION:Richmond Symphony and Maymont present the 5th Annual “Mile of Music!” Join us for a special concert presentation featuring ensembles from different sections of the orchestra in multiple mini-concerts along a one-mile route within a beautiful natural setting. At this free event\, you can take your time to enjoy some music and movement with family and friends! Event runs from 2pm to 5pm. \nSpread out across Maymont’s spacious lawns\, hear acoustic performances by six different ensembles from the Symphony’s talented musicians\, featuring different groups of strings\, wind and brass instruments. Each ensemble will perform twice\, spaced at regular intervals and locations encompassing the Carriage House Lawn\, the Italian Garden\, Tulip Poplar Hill and the Mansion Lawn. Featured ensembles include the Violin Quartet\, Brass Quintet\, Monumental 3 String Trio\, Principal Wind Quartet\, Capitol String Quartet and the AP Wind Quintet. \nBetween sets\, guests are invited to stroll to a different location\, enjoying variety of musical repertoires and the great outdoors.
