SUMMARY:A Midsummer Night's Dream
DESCRIPTION:William Soleau’s delightful telling of Shakespeare’s popular tale of love\, both lost and found\, sprinkled with a clever brand of mischief\, A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, returns this coming season to warm up the wintery month of February. Last presented in 2008\, this unique collaboration between the Ballet\, the Symphony\, singers\, and narrators\, takes audiences on a journey through the mystical\, woodland court of Tatiana and Oberon and the sumptuous and regal palaces of ancient Greece as the adventures of four sets of lovers become intertwined through a series of comical events and tricks set about by the infamous sprite\, Puck. Soleau’s classic and playful choreography will be brought to life as the entire Richmond Ballet Company joins together on the Carpenter Theatre’s historic stage. Paired with Felix Mendelssohn’s sparkling score\, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a treat for all ages.

SUMMARY:Metro Collection 3
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy classical music in an intimate setting. Metro concerts feature smaller scale works from the classical repertoire and newer pieces by contemporary composers. Richmond Symphony musicians are often featured soloists. \nMozart wrote the Overture to “Don Giovanni\,” K. 527\, the night the opera’s final dress rehearsal had been performed. As his wife told him stories to keep him awake and entertained\, the composer dozed off\, eventually falling into a deep sleep. Upon waking\, Mozart wrote and completed the Overture within two hours. Mozart’s biographer Ernest Newman insists that the story is true. Composition for Mozart “meant developing the work in his head; he found the business of writing it out rather tiresome\, and he would often postpone it as long as he could. . . . the Overture to Don Giovanni had been worked out in his head long before . . . all he had to do on that historic night was to put the notes on paper.” \n“How delighted I shall be to ramble for a while through bushes\, woods\, under trees\, through grass and around rocks. No one can love the country as much as I do. For surely woods\, trees\, and rocks produce the echo which man desires to hear.” Beethoven spent his summers in the country and it was there he did his most productive work. Beethoven composed most of his Symphony No. 6\, what he himself called his Pastoral symphony\, in the “delicious wooded environs of Heiligenstadt.” \n  \nLearn more about Steven Smith\, Conductor.\nLearn more about Reena Esmail\, Guest Composer.  \nProgram Notes \n  \n  \nSeries Sponsor \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Richmond Symphony’s weekly summer concert series returns this year in association with the University of Richmond Department of Music and VCU | School of the Arts | Department of Music. \nThe series is made up of six casual\, one-hour concerts spotlighting a single instrument with piano. Performances take place in the Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse\, Dominion Energy Center of the Performing Arts at 6:30 pm on Thursdays from July 9 to August 13. This year we will be live-streaming each concert. \nConcerts will remain available to ticket holders for an additional 6 days after the live performance. \nThis year’s theme is Beethoven\, in honor of his 250th birthday\, and we thought it fitting to dedicate our entire series to him and his world. \nSubscribe to all 6 Summer Series concerts! \nLearn more about Ronald Crutcher\, Cello. \nLearn more about Joanne Kong\, Piano
