Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier Suite opens the evening with its sumptuous orchestration\, sparkling waltzes\, and nostalgic elegance. The program then turns to Stars and Sand by Richmond-born composer Mary Howe\, whose evocative score captures both lyric beauty and a distinctive American voice.
