Richard Serpa holds the position of Principal Tuba with the Richmond Symphony. In addition to playing in Richmond, Rich was the Principal Tuba of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and he has played with the Florida Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Festival and Chamber Orchestras, and the Key West Symphony Orchestra, among others. In addition to performing, Rich has held teaching positions at the University of Central Arkansas, Longwood University, and Virginia Commonwealth University and currently maintains a private studio. Rich attended the Julliard School of Music.

Rich is married to Jill Foster, a violinist in the RSO, and they share the house with Lucy, their German Shepherd.
