Timeless American songs like Shenandoah and the spiritual Deep River resonate with emotional power, while early choral works such as William Billings’ I Am the Rose of Sharon and the traditional shape-note hymn Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal speak to the country’s musical roots. Luminary American composers like R. Nathaniel Dett and Amy Beach are also highlighted in the concert. The centerpiece of the program, Randall Thompson’s beloved Frostiana, brings the profound lyricism of Robert Frost’s poetry to the stage.
