Rebecca Benjamin
Violist Rebecca Benjamin, a native of Warsaw, Indiana, has been recognized for her versatility and expressive playing. A prizewinner at the 2025 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, she received the award for best performance of the commissioned work. Rebecca also competed in the 2023 ARD and 2022 Tokyo International Viola Competitions and has taken part in the IMS Prussia Cove Masterclasses in Cornwall, England. Her international appearances have included performances in Australia, Canada, England, Germany, the Dominican Republic, and Switzerland.
As a soloist, she has performed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, the Music Institute of Chicago Academy Chamber Orchestra, and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Youth Symphony. She has also played with the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra, the Kinetic Ensemble, the Houston Bach Society Orchestra, the Shepherd School Chamber Orchestra, and the Canadian Chamber Orchestra. She was the former acting principal violist of Symphony in C, a member of the Akron and Hartford Symphony Orchestras, and the concertmaster of the 2016 New York String Orchestra Seminar.
Ms. Benjamin is a passionate chamber musician and a member of the award-winning Abeo Quartet. Since joining the ensemble in 2021, they have performed extensively from the Kennedy Center to Melbourne and earned prizes at international competitions such as the Bad Tolz String Quartet Competition, the Banff International String Quartet Competition, and the Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition. Her summer appearances have included festivals such as Music@Menlo, La Jolla Music Society SummerFest, Aspen Music Festival and School, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Academy, McGill International String Quartet Academy, Avaloch Farm Music Institute, Caroga Lake Music Festival, Amelia Island Quartet Fellowship, Mimir Chamber Music Festival, St. Lawrence String Quartet Seminar, and the Beethoven Institute, among others.
Deeply committed to education and outreach, Rebecca delights in fostering engagement with the arts through performance and conversation amongst people of all ages. She joined the faculty of the Kneisel Hall Maine Students Program in 2022, where she coaches chamber music for middle and high-school students. She has led and participated in community-centered performances nationwide, most recently, as a 2024–2025 Young Artist with DACAMERA in Houston, bringing chamber music to schools, galleries, and public venues. When she was studying at Yale, she taught a small studio of Suzuki students through the Fairfield-Trumbull School of Music. In Richmond, she is thrilled to continue passing on the wisdom of her teachers as she coaches sectionals with members of the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra.
