Violist Johanna Beaver is an acting member of the Richmond Symphony and a founding member
of the Afton String Quartet. She spends her summers performing at the Wintergreen Music
Festival. An experienced and passionate educator, Johanna has served on the faculties of the
University of Virginia, University of Mary Washington, Interlochen Arts Camp, Opus 118
Harlem School of Music, and Charlottesville Day School. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts
degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where her principal mentors were
Mitchell Stern, Katherine Murdock, and the Emerson String Quartet
