Packed with humor, imagination, and vivid musical storytelling, this beloved suite introduces audiences of all ages to a charming parade of creatures from the regal lion and graceful swan to playful kangaroos and a curious aquarium.

With expressive orchestration and plenty of surprises, The Carnival of the Animals is a timeless favorite that’s perfect for children, newcomers to classical music, and anyone young at heart.

Arrive at 1:45 and journey through the lobby to Mooney Hall for trunk loads of fun! Strut your stuff and try a violin or a trumpet at the Instrument Petting Zoo hosted by Jan Hampton Violins and KBI Music Shoppe! The community partners – Children’s Museum of Richmond, Maymont, Richmond SPCA, and Richmond Performing Arts Alliance – will have activities ranging from making animal masks and matching instruments with animal sounds – to meeting live animal friends! The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Honors Chamber Ensembles will also perform.
