M E D I A  A D V I S O R Y

Richmond, Virginia (May 2, 2016) – The Richmond Symphony (RSO) is happy to announce ‘Rachmaninoff & the Russians’ as the theme of its third annual 2016 Summer Series of recitals.  These weekly concerts continue in association with the University of Richmond Department of Music and VCU | School of the Arts | Department of Music. This year, the series is made up of six casual, one-hour evening concerts featuring the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff and works by other Russian composers. Performances take place in Dominion Arts Center’s Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse on Thursdays, July 7 – August 11, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.

For the 2016 series, artists include: University of Richmond President Dr. Ronald Crutcher, cello with pianist Joanne Kong; Susy Yim, violin with pianist Daniel Stipe; Mary Boodell, flute with pianist Russell Wilson; Molly Sharp, viola with pianist Charles Staples; Jason McComb, cello with pianist John Walter; Shawn Welk, oboe/English horn with pianist Magdalena Adamek.

The series was created as a way to showcase the talents of the professional musicians associated with the Richmond Symphony, the University of Richmond, VCU and other institutions, all spotlighting a single instrument with piano. Tickets are only $20 for adults and include a voucher to enjoy a drink during the performance. The bar remains open after the performance so that audience and musicians have a chance to socialize together. Tickets are in very high demand – many concerts sell out prior to the day of the performance.

Full Series and Summer Sampler subscriptions are available starting at $54. Student and child prices are available. Complete schedule below. For more information, visit richmondsymphony.com or call1-804-788-1212.
