Who We Are
Recordings & Media
Of This Land
Released in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, Of This Land brings together four works rooted in Virginia and the people, places and histories that continue to shape the Commonwealth. Conducted by Music Director Valentina Peleggi, the album features the Richmond Symphony and Richmond Symphony Chorus performing music by Zachary Wadsworth, Damien Geter, Joe Jaxson and Mason Bates.
From the James River and the streets of Richmond to the stories of Mildred and Richard Loving and tennis champion Arthur Ashe, each work offers a distinct reflection on home, identity and belonging. Together, they reveal American history not as a finished story, but as something still being examined, expressed and written.
Of This Land reflects Richmond Symphony’s commitment to the orchestra as a living art form. By commissioning and championing the voices of today, we invite new stories into the symphonic tradition and ensure that orchestral music continues to speak to who we are, where we have been and what we might become.
